Mainstream and Independent movies

Differences between mainstream and independent movies:

Mainstream movies usually have a much larger budget than an independent movies, but people are more hesitant to give independent movies money. That is because it is harder for an Independent movie to win back the money they put into a movie, and is especially difficult to profit off it. Another difference is that mainstream movies usually have a more upbeat ending than independent movies. Independent movies are targeted at an older audience and tends to have limited star marketing and lower production values. Independent movies are rarely shown at multiplex cinemas. But the problem with mainstream movie budgets is that they can often put way too much money into a movie or their movie is under publicised so the film won't get as much money from sales and therefore they wouldn't have profited from the movie. Movie budgets cover a lot of area, it isn't just for special effects, but also for camera equipment, stage design, publicity, editing, acting, and everyone that works within those also needs to get paid their salary. The way most independent movies get this budget is from asking different companies is they could invest in their movie or take a loan from them. In independent movies you wont really see well known actors as they would cost a lot more and many well known actors wouldn't want to work in a independent movie, firstly because of salary, but also because if the movie does bad, it will affect their reputation as well.

Black Panther:

Black Panther is defined as mainstream due to the large budget, big production company, and it fits all the genres of mainstream films (Sci-Fi, Action, and Superhero). Black Panther fits nicely into the the marvel universe because of its large and intense fight scenes, and the superhero motifs. The biggest difference of Black Panther movies from the rest of the movies of marvel is because Black Panther has a majority POC cast, and delves into social issues like racism. What made this movie even more successful was that it was released during the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, and because it won an Oscar, where black films and directors don't usually get awards. It also did really well as it was an anticipated movie because of the Black Panther comics, also because Marvel itself has a very large and preexisting fanbase, and because of the huge budget, you just know it will be good. The budget for the movie was 200 million USD, with the movie making way above the budget with 1.344 billion USD.
